Here’s what happened when we visited Plantation Island Fiji

Through all my years working as a Fiji holiday specialist, the island nation still continues to lure me in and surprise me every time I visit. For my 43rd trip to Fiji, I decided to take my partner, our five kids, my parents, brother, sister-in-law and some friends on a family-friendly holiday staying at Plantation Island.

Here’s an insight into our trip, as well as the latest updates from Plantation Island:

Staying in paradise

So that we could keep an eye on the kids, I stayed in a two-bedroom garden bure at the Plantation Island Resort while my parents stayed in the brand new hotel rooms which were amazing. The resort underwent a massive renovation, revealing 40 new rooms, a new restaurant, pool and bar — and I was absolutely blown away by the upgrades.

Something for everyone to do!

Plantation Island is a destination in itself and we spent a lot of time just resting and relaxing at the resort, as well as engaging in a few onsite activities such as canoeing and paddle-boarding, which were all included in the package.

Though there were many highlights, one of my favourite from the trip was a snorkelling excursion we took to a sandbar. The kids kept themselves busy at the free water park and they also enjoyed playing touch footy with the locals every afternoon.

Since our visit, Plantation Island has a new watersports operator in Likuri Sailing Adventures, and a new surf operator called Taniela Surf. That means there are now even more activities on offer.

Wining and dining the Fijian way

For those looking to visit, I would definitely recommend taking out half board which includes both breakfast and dinner. This made it so much easier for us rather than trying to pick where to eat for each meal for our large group.

The island is in the process of revamping all of its food and beverage outlets and they’ve recently refurbished and remodelled both the Ol’ Copra Shed and Brigham Bar for even more options.

For even more special occasions

While we were already married during our trip, we saw some stunning locations that would be the perfect backdrop for a ceremony. The new wedding venues on Plantation Island mean that you could get the honeymoon started from the moment you say “I Do”!
